Mel C - drop the baby

Mel C says the Spice Girls tour is "no place for a baby".

The 33-year-old singer - who is the only Spice Girl yet to become a mother - has hit out at her bandmates for bringing their children on tour.

Mel told Britain's Closer magazine: "Travelling around the world and living out of a suitcase is no place for a baby. I feel that if I'm lucky enough to be blessed with a kid, then I want to be a regular mother.

"I'd want to be at home taking them to school and being there full-time. I wouldn't want to be travelling all over the world with them strapped to my back. I'm not criticising anyone else. That's just how I'd want it."

Victoria Beckham has three sons - Brooklyn, eight, five-year-old Romeo and Cruz, two - with soccer star husband David Beckham.

Mel B has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar, and a six-month-old daughter, Angel Iris, with former lover Eddie Murphy.

Geri Halliwell gave birth to daughter Bluebell Madonna in May 2006, while Emma Bunton welcomed her son Beau into the world in August.

Mel C revealed she is particularly worried about how Emma will cope taking her newborn son on the road with her.

She said: "I am sure Emma is nervous about taking Beau on tour because he'll only be three-months-old."
Menudo auditions conclude

Given new life by the American Idol phenomenon, Menudo is back and concluded its multicity audition tour over the weekend. The Latin boy band, which spawned the career of Ricky Martin, is reforming around a new reality television show called The Road to Menudo later this year. The auditions, previously held in Dallas, Miami, and Los Angeles, as well as a shopping mall in the New York City borough of Queens on Saturday, were to pick the show's 12 finalists.

About 100 would-be pop stars sang a cappella in both English and Spanish for a shot at becoming one of the five new members of the reformed group, which first performed in 1977, enjoyed its heyday in the 1980s, changed its name to MDO in 1997, and disbanded in 2003. The group was known for "retiring" its members when they hit age 16, or their voice or height changed too much. Current candidates must be at least 15 years old but appear younger than 19 years old. The group will have an Epic Records contract with the first single due out this year.
